Rock Hill City Directories: Circa 1930/35 – W.L. Roddey, 1938/1946 – Arnold F. Marshall, 1963/1975 – Dorothy Perrill

The Marshall family sold the home to Mrs. Perrill in ca. 1956 and the family moved to their new home on Sumter Ave., in Rock Hill.

Several Rock Hillians have sent information on the neighborhood and expressed their love of growing up along North Wilson and College Avenue. One of these individuals is Jim Townsend who states: “As kids, we (my brother George, Alvis Poe, the Marshall girls, Wallace Fennel, George Barron, Newt Quantz, Buddy Parker, Ned Marshall, Wesley Smith Poe, John Aycock, and Henry Sharp) all played together in that neighborhood. The older kids Frank Strait, Carlyle Moore, David Moore, Coleman Poag, Louise Barron, Bobby Barron Robert Hope, and others mentored us.

Harriet Marshall Goode also states, “Before that house was built (meaning the Feindel Home), there was a big open field and an alley with a group of three or four small houses. Our cook, Lillie Belle Roseborough and other black families lived there. That backed up to the fabulous Roddey house on the corner of Oakland and Wilson where a brick office building now sits. The Roddeys rented a room to Mr. Farrow, manager of Belks, and Mr. Farrow (C. Marion Farrow) had a horse in the barn behind the Roddey house. He allowed me to help him feed and groom the horse.”

The current owners, Hobart and Frankie MacLauchlan purchased this wonderful home in January, 2011 from Kenneth and Diana Watson.
